Why Bait-and-Switch Tasks Get You Suspended

What You See is What You Get

When a worker claims a task, they are agreeing to the exact terms, instructions, and rewards listed in the original description. Altering those terms mid-task or demanding extra work during the review process is known as a "bait-and-switch."

Common Bait-and-Switch Tactics

  • The Hidden Requirement: Asking a worker to "also follow me on Instagram" in the rejection note when the original task only asked for a Twitter like.
  • The External Redirect: Posting a task to "Sign up for a newsletter" but burying a requirement to spend real money on a third-party site inside the instructions.

Why It Ruins the Ecosystem

Workers rely on transparent task descriptions to calculate their Return on Investment (ROI). When assigners demand unpaid extra work, it destroys worker trust and dramatically slows down the completion rate of the entire marketplace.

The Consequences

If a worker reports an assigner for bait-and-switch tactics, our moderation team will review the original task description against the rejection comments. Assigners found guilty of extorting free work will have their active tasks cancelled and their accounts permanently suspended.
