Why Kobble Requires KYC
At Kobble, we are committed to building a trusted, secure, and compliant micro-tasking ecosystem for everyone. If you've recently tried to withdraw your earnings, you might have noticed that we require a mandatory Know Your Customer (KYC) verification process. We understand that sharing sensitive identity data can be daunting, so we want to be completely transparent about why we ask for it and how we fiercely protect it.
1. Compliance and Anti-Money Laundering (AML)
Kobble operates within a regulated financial ecosystem. To comply with national financial regulations and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) directives, we are legally required to verify the identities of users who transact and withdraw funds on our platform. This prevents the platform from being exploited for money laundering, terrorist financing, and other illicit financial activities.
By mandating KYC before your first withdrawal, we ensure that the funds are going to a verified, legitimate individual. This protects not only the platform but the entire Nigerian financial ecosystem.
2. Fraud Prevention and Platform Integrity
Micro-tasking platforms are frequent targets for bad actors attempting to farm rewards using bots, multiple fake accounts, or automated scripts. KYC serves as a powerful deterrent against this kind of fraud.
When we match a user's verified identity to their withdrawal bank account (your Nuban must match your KYC identity), we effectively eliminate the ability for fraudsters to create dozens of fake accounts to drain task budgets. This ensures that genuine workers get fair access to tasks, and Task Posters get high-quality, human results for their money.
3. The Liveness Check (Biometric Processing)
During the KYC process, we ask you to capture a live selfie. This biometric liveness check is crucial. It ensures that the person submitting the ID document is the actual owner of the document and is physically present during the verification. It prevents bad actors from using stolen IDs or downloaded images to impersonate someone else.
4. How We Protect Your Sensitive Data
We do not take the collection of your data lightly. Our codebase and infrastructure are designed with strict security protocols to ensure your information is safe:
- Military-Grade Encryption: Highly sensitive text data, such as your National Identity Number (NIN), is never stored in plain text. It is encrypted at rest using industry-standard AES-256-GCM encryption.
- Secure Cloud Storage: Your identity documents and selfies are not stored in our public databases. They are uploaded to highly secure, private R2 cloud buckets.
- Restricted Access: Your uploaded documents are completely inaccessible from the public internet. They can only be viewed by authorized compliance administrators through short-lived, signed URLs that expire automatically.
- We Don't Collect Your BVN: To minimize risk, we rely on government-issued IDs (like your NIN slip, Passport, Driver's License, or Voter's Card) and a live selfie. We do not ask for or store your Bank Verification Number (BVN).
In Summary
KYC is not just a regulatory checkbox; it is a fundamental pillar of trust on Kobble. It keeps the platform free from fraud, ensures Task Posters get real value, and guarantees that honest workers can earn safely. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us build the most secure micro-tasking platform in Africa.
